A native of Ohio, Dr. Bixler received his B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from Western Kentucky University where he was a three-year letter-winner, All-American and Academic All-American center on the football team. He returned to Ohio to study medicine and received his M.D. from the University of Cincinnati with a strong focus on primary care and preventive medicine.
Dr. Bixler completed an Air Force residency affiliated with the University of California Davis at Travis Air Force Base where he served as Chief Resident. In his first assignment at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, Dr. Bixler quickly ascended from staff physician to element leader to director of clinical services overseeing 20 providers and the care of 30,000 beneficiaries. Dr. Bixler was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his medical care of over 7500 deployed troops in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the Meritorious Service Medal upon honorable completion of his military commitment.
